A Schneeberg Summer… (or any other non-skiing time of year)

There is so much to see and do in the area once the snow leaves us!  Summer at Haus Schneeberg is a chance to relax amidst breathtaking beautiful scenery. The summer daytime temperatures are very pleasant, generally in the range 22-30 degrees and at night it cools down for a very comfortable night’s sleep.

There are plenty of activities to enjoy in the area from beautiful walks and hikes across pristine alpine meadows to exhilarating mountain and road biking or excellent golf with 15 courses within a 45 minute drive. There are 4 clay tennis courts in the village and the area is renowned for its classic alpine climbing routes. There is an open air swimming pool in the village and the Karbachalm gondola and other main lifts operate from end May through till mid October, allowing access to excellent walking and biking trails and culinary delights at the mountain restaurants. The hiking bus stops 100m from the house.

The area is known for it’s petting zoos – many of the local farms open their doors to the public to see their animals.  You can see horses, pigs, goats and many other animals.

We now offer the Hochkönig Card which gives you free use of the hiking bus, free use of the mountain lifts in Summer, free access to the swimming pool, plus lots of other benefits.

The Salzburgerland card is ideal to get free entry into many other sightseeing attractions further afield such as Salzburg, Hohenwerfen Castle, waterfalls, gorges, museums, lakes and swimming pools in the Salzburg area.  For more details including prices, click here.  You can order the card on the internet prior to arrival, or buy one from the local Tourist information office.

If you like a more exhilarating experience, you can go white water rafting, canyoning, paragliding, zip line, among other activities.  Salzburg Adventures offer many experiences such as this.

Hiking and walking

The Hochkönig area offers over 340km of hiking trails and there are trails to suit all abilities. There are themed trails, such as the Forest trail and Butterfly path, long distance trails lasting up to 5 days, and guided hiking tours. There are 6 mountain lifts that are open over the Summer that give easy access to the beautiful mountain tops with fantastic views of the area. There are also many mountain huts that are open over the Summer period offering tasty, mouth watering Austrian delights.  The lifts can be used free of charge with the Hochkönig card, and there are free guided walking tours you can join in

Many take the epic hike up to the top of the Hochkönig mountain – this is a long hike that you can do in 12 hours in one day, or you can book in to stay overnight at the Matrashaus at the top of the Hochkönig, and see the magnificent sunset and sunrise!

Mountain, Road and E biking

This area is offers a beautiful, diverse and varied landscape. For those of you who are feeling energetic, you can hit the many mountain bike trails that offer kilometers of fun, or if you prefer the roadbike, you can ride over the passes to Maria Alm, and if you are feeling even more adventurous, you can head further afield to Zell am Zee or Saalbach. You can rent bikes in the village and for those of you who may not feel quite as energetic, there is the option of renting electric bikes so you can fully take in the beauty of the area!

With the Hochkönig Card you can take your bikes on the lifts free of charge, and you can also get a free bike taxi!  There are also guided mountain bike tours which are included in the Hochkönig Card.

Swimming

Mühlbach am Hochkönig has its own outdoor swimming pool with water slides for the kids. It is heated by solar power. There’s also a sunbathing area with spectacular views, a table tennis table, a table football table, and snackbar. Open from end May through the beginning of September, weather dependent. 

There is also an open air swimming pool in Maria Alm which has slides, drenching showers, massage jets, children’s pool and children’s playground, which offers hours of fun for the family!  There is free entrance to the pool, along with the pool in Maria Alm with the Hochkönig Card

Mountain Carting

Take the Karbachalm gondola up the mountain, and then mountain cart down the mountain at the end of the day!

Great fun, and adventure and a chnace to see the magnificent views on your journey down.

There is a height limit of 1.5m to take part in this activity.

Tennis

There are 4 clay courts available for hire in Mühlbach am Hochkönig and equipment can be hired from Haus Schneeberg. Your host Jerome is a qualified LTA tennis coach and can provide tailored individual coaching sessions on request.

Rock climbing and Via Ferrata

The Hochkönig is one of the mightiest rock edifices in the northern limestone Alps, lying at the south-eastern corner of the Berchtesgaden Alps. The Hochkönig has a wealth of variety in store for climbers, lovers of fixed-rope trails and truly ambitious mountaineers.  There are 300 different rock climbing routes and for the experienced climbers, there is the Königsjodler, one of Austria’s famous top via ferrata trails.  If you want to give rock climbing a go before you hit the mountain, why not try the indoor rock climbing centre at the Hochkeil Haus in Mühlbach?

Golf

With 15 courses within 45 minutes drive of Haus Schneeberg there is plenty of variety to keep even the keenest golfer busy. There are a range of both mountain valley and lakeside parkland courses to play in the most spectacular scenery. Please click here to view details of the courses. Geocaching Hochkoenig

Geocaching

The electronic treasure hunt works on the basis of geographic coordinates that are published on the internet and can be searched using a GPS receiver device, which can be borrowed from the tourist information office.

When Geocaching in the Hochkönig over 120 hiding places can be found.  Combine hiking and fun to create an exciting symbiosis for the whole family!

Summer Rodelbahn

Fun for the whole family can be found on the 1.6 km long summer toboggan run on the Biberg in Saalfelden. Take a seat, release the brake, and off you go! On this action-packed ride, you will conquer 345 vertical meters, 61 fun curves, and 3 super jumps. 

Whether dashing down the mountain or a leisurely ride down into the valley, you can set your own pace with the brake.  Each member of the family gets one free ride with the Hochkönig Card.

Archery Hochkoenig

Horse Riding and Archery

Gallop over flowering alpine meadows, wade through romantic streams, and enjoy the magnificent views of the Hochkönig with horseback riding experiences!
 

Archery combines fun, concentration, excitement and relaxation.  Take an archery course in the beautiful surroundings!  Avaailable at the top of the Karbachalm mountain lift, or at the Jufen Alm, and a free session is included for free with the Hochkönig Card

Rafting

Raft down the Saalzach river and take in the beautiful surroundings! There are family friendly raft rides available, as well as white water rafting – as seen in the photo

Natrun Waldrutschenpark

Prinzenberg Natrun

You can reach Prinzenberg from the centre of Maria Alm – either by walking up to the top of the hill, or take the Natrun gondola (free wth the Hochkönig Card) .

At the top of the gondola, you will find Tom’s Alm Hut, a lovely spot for lunch.  If you continue further up the hill you will walk through the forest ropes course, and up to the Prinzenberg lake, where you can sit and relax, and take in the views!

The Grammerlgut snack station has some wonderful mountain treats, and an amazing playground.

On the way down, take the forest slides park down the mountain – 5 slides from 25 – 55m long!

Children

There are many other activities for kids or all the family to enjoy in the region, including Alpine playgrounds, mini golf, slackline park, climbing park, and more!
