Salzburg airport is situated in the north west of the city of Salzburg, just 4km from the centre of the city. It is a beautiful place to land, at any time of the year, as you can see the surrounding mountains as you come in to land!
The airport is fairly small, and has 2 terminals – terminal one is used throughout the year, and terminal 2 is generally only used in peak periods, in particular in winter. They are situated next to each other, so if you do go to the wrong terminal, you do not have far to go!
There are some shops and cafes before you go through security to the departure lounges, and once in the departure area, there is a small duty free shop in each terminal, and a cafe and toilets. See the plan of the airport below.
There are flights into Salzburg from most countries all year around, and flights increase in volume and in the variety of departure airports in winter.

Taking a Taxi from Salzburg Airport to Mühlbach am Hochkönig
The taxi rank is directly outside terminal one. It is best to prebook a taxi as you will be charged less for this. We can arrange a taxi for you – please contact us at info@hausschneeberg.com to arrange this. Taxis will cost you from €90 to €150 each way, depending on size, and whether you prebook. Taxis are available to take up to 4 passengers, and up to 8 passengers.
Hiring a car at Salzburg Airport
The car hire check in desks are in the building opposite the airport terminal. it is advisable to prebook your car hire, and generally the earlier you book, the better price you will get. Prices start at around €150 for a week. As you are hiring the car in Austria, you will automatically get winter tyres on your hire car from 15th November till 1st April.- just double check that this has been included in the price. A vignette for the motorways will also already be on your hire car. Then follow the directions below. The journey takes you approx 45 minutes – one hour, depending on traffic.
Driving from Salzburg airport to Mühlbach am Hochkönig
From Salzburg take the A1 towards Villach / Münich, and then the A10 South (signed Italien/Slowenien/Graz/Villach) for approximatey 43 km. At Junction 47 keep right and follow signs for B311 toward Bischofshofen/Pongau. After 4.5 km, leave the B311 and take the B164 Hochkönigstraße towards Mühlbach / Dienten / Maria Alm. After about 10km you will arrive in Mühlbach am Hochkönig. Haus Schneeberg (245 Mühlbach am Hochkönig) is just past the main shops on the right hand side, after a small church and just behind the firestation. Open Google Maps here to see detail.
Taking public transport from Salzburg Airport to Mühlbach am Hochkönig
You will need to take a bus to Salzburg main train station – Hauptbahnhof, then a train to Bischofshofen, then a bus to Mühlbach am Hochkönig. The bus stop is directly outside terminal one. You can buy a ticket at the machine by the bus stop. The ticket from the airport to Mühlbach am Hochkönig is around €14 per person each way.
The No. 2 bus runs daily every 10/20 minutes between Salzburg Main Station and the airport. Sundays and public holidays every 20 min. Journey time approx. 23 min.
The No. 10 bus (Mon-Sat) departs every 10 minutes from the airport to the city centre. Journey time approx. 15 min.
Then take the train to Bischofshofen. You can find the train schedule here. The trains are frequent at peak times. This takes around 45 minutes.
Then catch the 590 bus from outside the station to Mühlbach am Hochkönig. You can see the schedules with the link above for the train. The buses are approximately every hour, and it takes approx 15 minutes. The nearest bus stop for Haus Schneeberg is the Gemeindeamt (council buildings), but the bus stop in the centre is only an extra 100m walk.
