About Us

We are Jérôme and Alison Lebatard and Chestnut, our labrador.  It has been our dream to own a ski and hiking guest house in the Alps for many years and we bought Haus Schneeberg at the end of 2012. We fell in love with the scenery of the Hochkönig straight away!

Jérôme is French, and previously was a French Ski Instructor, a tennis coach in the UK, and a small plane flight instructor in the United States.  Jérôme is the creative one, always with ideas!  Alison is British, and used to be a commercial manager in the UK.  She is the business one who deals with the marketing, bookings and accounts! We both speak English and French and our German is improving fast!  Jérôme also speaks some Spanish and Italian.

Chestnut is our lovely labrador who likes to bark to let you know she is there, and loves cuddles, walkies, and snow!

We live in the ground floor apartment of Haus Schneeberg, and are here to answer any questions you may have or advise you on best areas to ski, hike, bike, eat etc. to ensure that you make the most of your stay!

We like to think of our customers as guests in our home, and want to ensure that you have the best holiday possible.

Location

Haus Schneeberg is situated in the centre of Mühlbach am Hochkönig, a traditional old copper mining village, with access to ski and hiking routes, 60km South of Salzburg.  It is ideal for a ski or hiking and biking holiday. In the village, there are restaurants, banks with ATMs, a supermarket, a bakery, ski hire and ski school shops, among other facilities.

Value for money in the resort is excellent - you will find food and drink prices substantially lower than most other ski resorts.  The scenery is beautiful and the location is fantastic for both winter and summer holidays.  In winter, you have access to over 120km of pistes in the Hochkönig ski area via the local gondola station, 750m from the House.

You can ski back to within 100m of the house, along the ski path, snow conditions permitting.   The area has a wealth of mountain restaurants serving tasty local delights at really reasonable prices.  You also have access to over 760km of pistes in the Ski Amadé  area, which includes ski resorts such as Schladming, Flachau, Zauchensee, Gastein, and the Dachstein glacier

In Summer, there are over 340km of hiking trails, along with many other activities where you can take advantage of the beautiful scenery.  There is an open air swimming pool in the village, along with tennis, archery, horseriding, geocaching, and many other activities in the area.

As we are in the centre of the Salzburg region, it is an ideal place to explore the sights.  The most popular sights to see are Hohenwerfen castle, Eisriesenwelt (the largest ice caves in the World), Grossglockner high Alpine road, Hallstatt, the Königssee and Berchtesgaden, Salt mines, waterfalls, gorges, and of course Salzburg itself!

How to find us

Haus Schneeberg is in the village of Mühlbach am Hochkönig located in the heart of the Salzburg Alps, only 38 miles (about 40 mins drive) due south of Salzburg International Airport and less than 2 hours drive from Klagenfurt, Graz, Linz. You can also travel to Innsbruck and Munich, which are about 2.5 hours drive away.  There are plenty of flights from all over the UK available with regular flights from low cost operaters such as Jet2, Easyjet, Ryanair, Eurowings and Tui in addition to the national carriers.

Via prior arangement, it is possible to organise transfers to and from the airport for an additional fee. Please contact us at time of booking to organise transfers. There is a frequent and efficient train service to/from Salzburg or Munich to Bischofshofen. From Bischofshofen you can take a 10 minute taxi ride or there is a frequent bus service to Mühlbach am Hochkönig.

Haus Schneeberg is directly behind the fire station in the village - take the right turn just before the fire station, and just after you pass all the shops in the village.

Take the Mühlbach am Hochkönig bus from the Bischofshofen Bahnhof (Vorplatz) - just outside the train station. It is a 15 mins journey. You can buy a ticket for just under 12 euros for total journey from airport to Mühlbach am Hochkönig.

The nearest airport and shortest transfer is Salzburg International. Alternatives are Innsbruck, Munich Klagenfurt, Linz, Graz or Vienna. Many low cost operators fly to Salzburg from UK regional airports, please click here to view the Salzburg Flight Timetable. There are more flights available during the winter and early spring Dec-April. From the airport, you can either contact us by prior arrangement to arrange a private transfer, hire a car or take bus & train to Bischofshofen and then a further bus or taxi to Mühlbach am Hochkönig. If planning to take the train, you will need to first catch the bus from Salzburg airport to Salzburg Station (Hauptbahnhof).

There is an excellent train service from Salzburg Station (Hauptbahnhof) to Bischofshofen. This runs every half hour or so and takes about 40 minutes. There is no problem bringing skis and boards on the trains. The price is approximately 12 Euros each way for the bus/train/bus combination all the way to Mühlbach am Hochkönig and can be purchased on the day of travel. Allow at least 1.5 hours for full bus and train journey from Bischofshofen to Salzburg airport. Once at Bischofshofen, you can take a 10 minute taxi ride or please follow directions for bus below.

If planning to drive, there are many laws to comply with. For full details, please see the RAC Driving in Austria page. Please note in the winter (1 Nov-Apr 15) that your vehicle requires (by law) winter tyres or tyres marked M&S (mud & snow). In addition, in the mountains you will be required to carry a set of snow chains. Only use these if road has full snow cover. If hiring a car, then the car will be properly equipped. You will also need to buy a vignette (motorway tax sticker) to use the motorway network which you can buy at service stations before entry into Austria, or on the border.

From Salzburg take the A1 and then the A10 South (signed Italien/Slowenien/Graz/Villach) for approximatey 43 km. At Junction 47 keep right and follow signs for B311 toward Bischofshofen/Pongau. After 4.5 km, leave the B311 and take the B164 Hochkönigstraße towards Mühlbach / Dienten / Maria Alm. After about 10km you will arrive in Mühlbach am Hochkönig. Haus Schneeberg (245 Mühlbach am Hochkönig) is just past the main shops on the right hand side, after a small church and just behind the firestation.
